With lockdown easing more and more over the coming weeks, returning to the office is a fast approaching reality for a lot of us. We have been thinking about the positive impact Covid has had on our return to the office and how it has given a lot of working parents a much better work-life balance in the process.
Employer’s trust - Over the previous 18 months, lockdown has taught employers many things, one of them being that you don’t need to be in the office 5 days a week to get the job done. As a result, the trust employers have in their employees to get the work done without their supervision has increased. People are being productive from home and it’s allowed a more trusting relationship for all involved.
Varied work days - With offices reopening soon, it’s looking increasingly likely that the new norm will be working some days remotely and some days in the office. Alternating between home and the office for some is a great solution. It adds variety into people’s worklife, meaning you don’t have to spend everyday staring at the same four office walls. It allows you to head into the office if ever you get sick of home, and vice versa!
Better work-life balance - We’ve all wanted to be able to balance our careers with our personal lives. With the new way of working, being able to balance the two is becoming a reality. Time spent working from home on your selected days means you can catch up on your housework during the lunch break, saving evenings and weekends to spend time with your friends and family.
Work where you want - A lot of us in recent times have been restricted as to where we can live and work. Has there been a picturesque location you’ve always wanted to move to but couldn’t because of work commitments? This retirement dream can be a reality now that remote working has proven to be a success. Perhaps you have a beautiful beach house you wanted to live in that’s 2 hours from the city, or a cottage in the countryside that’s too far to commute from daily. With remote or partly remote working, your relocation dreams can become a reality.
Maybe you're not interested in a move but you would love to work somewhere different. Logging on from a coworking space on the Champs Elysees, or a coffee shop in Seattle - the world is your oysters if you are looking for some different scenery.
Flexible working - Many of us knew this already, but remote working does work! With the pandemic having forced many companies to remote work, we can now benefit from a more flexible working day. When you worked from the office 5 days a week it was always tricky to make your kid’s football game or to get time off your morning to visit the doctors. Now that people are working remotely for the most part, it means we can attend these places without the embarrassment of leaving the office early. Simply make up the hours from home and have the flexibility to do both!
